Art Gallery: Born from the Beat

It all began in 1996, deep in the heart of East London, when Mods Alex Banks and Christopher Lord set the decks spinning and the scene ablaze. Together with Lady Michelle, Flaz, Cess, and Graeme Very, they formed the Art Gallery DJ Collective—a sonic rebellion dedicated to 60s Soul, Beat, Jazz, and Psychedelia.

Their debut night, The Beat Bubble Ball, launched on December 22nd at The Clinic in Chinatown—a glittering, groove-drenched affair that set the tone for what was to come. By 1997, they were guesting at Paul Hallam’s iconic Popcorn night at the 100 Club, Oxford Street—where the past met the present in the pulse of a bassline.

Then came Lordy Lord!—five glorious years of sweat, soul, and packed dance floors. It wasn’t just a night out. It was a movement. A sound. A scene.

From the club to the closet, Art Gallery’s next step was inevitable. A clothing line steeped in the same rich heritage and razor-sharp style that defined their nights.
